Pakistan has been accusing Afghanistan of providing safe havens to the TTP and its splinter groups.

Mediation efforts by China, Qatar and Turkiye have so far failed to achieve lasting results, with tensions at an all-time high. Pakistan has accused Afghanistan of sheltering the TTP, while Afghan officials deny the claims and say civilians are being killed in Pakistani strikes.

An Iranian academic says a lack of trust could lead to the collapse of the negotiations between the US and Iran before the end of the 60-day “ceasefire” period.

Mostafa Khoshcheshm, professor at the University of Applied Sciences in Tehran, said he doubts there will be a deal at all because “it is clear that the [US] just wanted to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, nothing beyond that”.

Khoshcheshm says Iranian negotiators are wary about whether the US will keep up its end of the bargain, given past experience. “We’ve been in talks with them, and the result was the JCPOA, but Donald Trump tore it apart. We were in talks with them last year twice, and they bombed the negotiating table.”

He questioned the conduct of US President Trump. “Threatening Iranians very much and very badly, saying that he will obliterate Iran”, is not building trust, he said.

“As a matter of fact, top Iranian officials and negotiators have always stressed that they are in talks with the US with total distrust of the United States,” Khoshcheshm said.

The US has violated the ceasefire repeatedly, and it will be “very hard work, if not impossible”, to build Iranians’ confidence in negotiations, he added.

A mother whose son went to check on the family home inside the Orange Zone said: "This yellow line separated me from my son. I can't go see him. I want to know if he is alive or dead." Human rights activist Alaa Skafi warned that Israel's seizure of more than two-thirds of Gaza is part of a "systematic methodological policy" of genocide, aimed at ending all forms of life and potentially setting up illegal settlements.

Israel has expanded its military zone in Gaza, with the UN-designated "Orange Line" now covering an additional 11 percent of the territory. In total, Israeli restrictions apply to approximately 64 percent of the Strip, leaving just 36 percent for more than two million people. The UN says the expanded boundary is hampering already limited aid operations and forcing further displacement. Authorities in Gaza report ongoing civilian casualties near the zone, which carries no visible warnings or markings.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi held a press conference in Baghdad following meetings with his Iraqi counterpart Fuad Hussein. He thanked the Iraqi government and people for their support during the war and congratulated the new Iraqi government. He said the visit also covered final preparations for the funeral processions of the late Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, to be held in Najaf and Karbala in early July.
On the Strait of Hormuz, Araghchi reiterated that the waterway "remains under the total oversight and management of Iran" for the next 30 days under the MoU, and that no other party should interfere. He warned that any unilateral action would "exacerbate the situation" and delay the reopening of the strait. He also said the US must ensure Israel ceases its attacks on Lebanon and withdraws from occupied territories, calling this "item one" of the MoU.
Araghchi condemned continued US strikes on Iranian military and port facilities, saying they violate the MoU. Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein offered to mediate between the GCC countries, Iran and Iraq to defuse regional tensions and restore stability. Araghchi welcomed the proposal. For Iraq, the closure of the Strait of Hormuz has had a severe economic impact, as the country relies on oil revenues for more than 95% of its national income.

Qatar has established an air bridge to deliver emergency aid to Venezuela following a major earthquake. Hong Kong has expanded its traditional Dragon Boat races into a 13-day cultural and sporting festival, as authorities look for new ways to attract tourists and increase visitor spending.

This year’s event brings together around 4,500 participants across 220 teams from 16 countries and regions, alongside food markets, cultural performances, and tourism promotions across the city.

Despite rising visitor arrivals, numbers remain below pre-pandemic levels, and spending—particularly by mainland Chinese tourists, who make up the majority of visitors—has declined amid economic pressures and a stronger Hong Kong dollar.

Organisers hope that combining sport, culture, and retail incentives will encourage visitors to stay longer and spend more, helping support a tourism sector that underpins hundreds of thousands of jobs.

But with regional competition increasing and consumer habits shifting, questions remain over whether large-scale cultural events alone can restore the city’s former tourism momentum.

In Caracas, survivors of the earthquake continue to pick through destroyed neighbourhoods, searching for what remains of their homes and belongings.

For many, entire lives have been erased in seconds, leaving families dependent on relatives, volunteers, and overcrowded shelters for survival.

Temporary camps across the city are now filled with displaced residents sleeping in tents, with limited access to food, water, and basic services. Many say they are too afraid to return to damaged buildings still deemed unsafe.

Hospitals in affected regions are also under intense pressure, receiving a steady flow of injured patients from the hardest-hit coastal areas. Medical teams and volunteers are working around the clock to manage admissions and distribute supplies.

Authorities say rescue and recovery operations remain ongoing, but with thousands still missing and widespread destruction, the humanitarian crisis is far from over.
