Israeli attacks across Gaza have killed at least 20 Palestinians since dawn

Israel has killed at least 20 Palestinians in a major escalation across Gaza on Wednesday, violating the US-brokered ceasefire.
strikes and artillery shelling have hit Gaza City, Khan Yunis, and al-Mawasi, making movement extremely dangerous.
A Palestinian Red Crescent medic was killed while evacuating the wounded, highlighting the risks to emergency crews.
Medical evacuations remain severely limited, with Israel briefly halting coordination for Palestinian patients at Rafah crossing.
The suspension was blamed on missing WHO data, though coordination resumed later in the day.
Israeli authorities claim the attacks respond to an incident injuring an Israeli officer, though evidence is limited.
Airstrikes continue in eastern Gaza City, including Tuffah and Zeitoun neighbourhoods, adding to mounting casualties.
Tensions remain high as drones and fighter jets patrol the skies, signalling further potential attacks.

Al Jazeera's Tareq Abu Azzoum reports from Gaza City.

US–Iran set for talks in Oman on Friday as Trump says Tehran wants to avoid strikes

Talks between the United States and Iran are expected on Friday in Muscat, Oman, according to Iranian sources.
US President Donald Trump said negotiations are underway, adding that Iran wants to avoid further US airstrikes after what he called the “Midnight Hammer” operation.
Speaking in the Oval Office, Trump said Iran is “negotiating” and wants “something to be done”, warning it does not want a repeat of US military action.
Senior Iranian sources confirmed the venue, while saying the format and final arrangements are still being discussed.
Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi is expected to attend, alongside US envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.
Key disputes include uranium enrichment limits, Iran’s ballistic missile programme, and its regional alliances.
Tehran says missiles are non-negotiable and is seeking firm US guarantees after Washington withdrew from the 2015 nuclear deal.

Al Jazeera’s Ali Hashem joins us live from Tehran to discuss the latest developments.

From protest to ballot: Bangladesh votes, but revolutionary ideals face reality check

Abu Sayed, a student protester, was fatally shot by police outside Rangpur University gates on 16 July 2024, sparking mass demonstrations that toppled Bangladesh's government and led to this month's elections.
His defiant final stand, broadcast live, became the defining image of the revolution.
Whilst his family and fellow protesters hope for justice and systemic change, many express concern that the country's deep-rooted inequality, corruption and nepotism remain largely unaddressed, with the top 1 percent holding a quarter of the nation's wealth.

Al Jazeera's Tony Cheng reports from Rangpur, northwestern Bangladesh.

Ethiopia on edge after weekend drone strike in Tigray as Abiy Ahmed blames TPLF

Tensions are escalating in Ethiopia's Tigray region following a weekend drone strike that killed civilians, with the regional government accusing the national army of carrying out the attack. Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed addressed parliament, blaming the Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF) for ongoing problems whilst highlighting the presence of Eritrean forces in Tigray, which he accused of committing mass atrocities. Internal divisions within the TPLF and fears of renewed conflict have prompted some residents to flee, as communities still recovering from a war that killed over 100,000 people call for de-escalation.

Syrian army gains control: Kurdish-led SDF pulls out of stronghold Qamishli

The Syrian army has entered the northeastern city of Qamishli, one of the last strongholds of the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces. It's part of a ceasefire deal and an agreement that's meant to see the SDF integrate into the Syrian army. A large convoy of trucks was seen entering the city. A daytime curfew was declared, which authorities say is needed to 'maintain order during the transition.' Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is on a two-day visit to Saudi Arabia and Egypt.
He's set to discuss regional issues including developments in Gaza and Iran.
Erdogan has arrived in Riyadh, his first visit to the kingdom in more than two years.
He's scheduled to meet Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
The president is accompanied by foreign minister Hakan Fidan, along with several other top officials.

They're also likely to discuss a possible defence pact that includes Pakistan.

To discuss this developing story, we’re joined by Abdulaziz al-Gashian, a Senior Non-Resident Fellow with the Gulf International Forum and Barin Kayaoglu Chair and Assistant Professor of American Studies at the Social Sciences University of Ankara.
