Thousands of people gathered in the Mexican city Tultepec on Tuesday to celebrate the annual National Pyrotechnic Festival.
Spectators marked the festival, held for San John of God, the patron saint of fireworks makers, by setting off a rip-roaring display. The celebrations included the burning of the 'toritos', bull-shaped frames carrying fireworks that run rampant among people.
Tultepec, an urban municipality of about 130,000 people, is known as Mexico’s ‘pyrotechnics capital’ whose economy is mainly based on the production of hand-made fireworks.

SOT, Liliana, housewife (Spanish): “Well, this has been a tradition for years. It is very common to see huge bulls full of pyrotechnics. People get together, complete families, it is very nice. It is a familiar atmosphere that takes place every year. Last year, due to the pandemic, it was not possible, but now the atmosphere is very good.”

Ximena, student (Spanish): “It is very beautiful to share this with the people who produce the pyrotechnics.”

Liliana, housewife (Spanish): “Also, people come from many countries. People from all over the world come to this specific festivity of the burning of the bulls. That is very nice.”

"It is then necessary, as the Prime Minister suggested, to introduce external management and transfer these enterprises to those who want to work. There are enough legal and market instruments. We should avoid any arbitrary actions", he concluded.

SOT, Keir Starmer, British leader of the opposition: "The Ukrainian people, the Ukrainian people. Mr Speaker, the Ukrainian people are fighting for democracy. We must stand with them. That means taking the toughest possible measures against Putin. And let's be honest, there will be costs here at home. We can withstand those costs and we must by using a windfall tax to keep bills down for working people, by starting a new era of energy policy never again at the mercy of a dictator, supporting new nuclear after years of neglect, sprinting on renewables, including onshore wind and an urgent national mission to upgrade homes after years of dither and delay. So why is the prime minister offering the same failed energy policy, that cast us into the security crisis and allowed bills to rocket?" *MULTIPLE SHOTS AT SOURCE*

SOT, Boris Johnson, British Prime Minister: "Mr. Speaker, what we are junking is the failed energy policies that left us without enough nuclear power, Mr. Speaker. And what we are going to do is go forward with policies that allow this country to be independent in our energy supply and maximizing renewables, Mr. Speaker, making sure that we use transitional hydrocarbons and going for nuclear as well. As I say, I am overjoyed that Labour now seems to occupy that position. But what we will also do, Mr. Speaker and here he has been supportive, is make sure that at the House of Commons, we work together to maintain our opposition to Vladimir Putin's vile war in Ukraine and there together with the toughest possible economic sanctions, by maintaining our military support for the people of Ukraine, I have no doubt that though there will be dark days ahead and difficult times, Mr. Speaker, we will come through it stronger and I have no doubt that Vladimir Putin will fail and we will succeed in restoring a sovereign and independent Ukraine." *MULTIPLE SHOTS AT SOURCE*

SOT, Ian Blackford, leader of the Scottish National Party (SNP) in the House of Commons: "The Ukrainian people, the Ukrainian people. Mr Speaker, the Ukrainian people are fighting for democracy. They are uncapped and we expect those numbers to rise to in the region of the hundreds of thousands, as Vladimir Putin doubles down in his attacks we will go further, Mr Speaker, and there will be routes by which the whole country can offer a welcome to people from Ukraine." *MULTIPLE SHOTS AT SOURCE*

SOT, Boris Johnson, British Prime Minister: "No one has been turned away, Mr Speaker. We want to be as generous as... Mr Speaker, it is important to have checks.. Let me make this point to the House because I do think people need to understand. There are some people, there are some people, Mr Speaker, who would like to dispense with checks altogether and simply to wave people through. And I've got to say and I hear the voices on the benches opposite, I do think that that is irresponsible and that is not the approach that we should be taking. The Schengen countries have a different arrangement. We must be in no doubt, as I said in answer to a previous question, the Kremlin has singled out this country for the approach that we are taking. Vladimir Putin, and we know how unscrupulous Putin can be in his methods, it would not be right, Mr Speaker, to expose this country to unnecessary security risk and we will not do it, Mr Speaker. SOT, Resident of Sartana village (Russian): "We were running, and we didn't realize if we were going to make it to this pit. We were under the open sky, you know, with her [daughter] and one more 8-year-old child. And they were dropping [shells] 100 meters away from us. Whistles, explosions. We were screaming, we were scared because we didn't know if we were going to make it or not. Where are you shooting at?"

SOT, Celeste Fierro, member of Socialist Workers Movement (Spanish): “Today one of the fundamental slogans of the march is that the debt is with us and not with the IMF. Because those billions that are going to be paid to that scam should have been used to generate genuine work, to have a real policy that ends and reduce the salary gap, have a policy that really confronts gender violence.”

Georgia: Store in Tbilisi refuses to serve Russian citizens over Ukraine situation

SOUNDBITES:

SOT, Store owner (Russian): "The sign clearly says: the Russian citizens. There is no ethnic chauvinism there. It doesn't just say all Russians [are not allowed]. Russians also live in Ukraine. There is a war going on for these Russians, since Putin wanted to provide them with security there. It's not about the Russians. Although I still think that wherever they live, they have their own imperialist thinking, which is very bad."

SOT, Local resident (Russian): "They shouldn't have written [such an inscription], we are a multinational country. They shouldn't have written about it at all. This topic shouldn't be touched here in Georgia at all, because we are a multinational country. I'm closing down this topic."

SOT, Former Moscow resident (Russian): "I'm from Moscow, my wife is Ukrainian. We face difficulties renting an apartment here because we are Russians. I fully understand this restriction, this is the requirement of the Georgians. Оn the other hand, when I'm asked to prove whether I support Putin or not, I always say that those people who left Russia clearly don’t support him. Because those who support [Putin], they stayed."

SOT Beka, local resident (Georgian): "I am against this inscription. This is nonsense. I mean, we know that Russia is not the Kremlin itself."

SOT Beka, local resident (Georgian): "The Kremlin is one thing, and the Russians are another. This is our neighbouring country, we have friends there. I myself have many friends from Russia. I think refusing them access into the country looks like discrimination." *LOOSE TRANSLATION*

SOT, Yuliana, Ukrainian (Russian): "I am Ukrainian, all my relatives are in the Kharkov region. My position is that it's wrong because the fight is between the people in power only. In fact, ordinary people have nothing to do with it at all."

SOT Local resident (Georgian): "As for the store - no [I don't support the inscription]. But also I don't support such a flow of people from Russia [to Georgia], because there is no war conflict there. And more than half of them, a lot of Russian citizens excuse Putin." *LOOSE TRANSLATION*

SOUNDBITES:

SOT, Josianne, (French): “Women’s rights are in danger today, and unfortunately it has been like this for many years. It does not evolve so much. If we look at the work place, women are often harassed, abused, they are paid less than men, there is even a huge difference, around 20% or more. In everyday life, they have a double day, they work and at home they take care of the children and the housework, that hasn't changed much. In the street if they walk they can be assaulted, and in addition there are the murders of women, there are always so many and the Macron government, for example, in five years, has done absolutely nothing to change that".

SOT, Jeanne, (French): "I would say that the least respected right in this Country is the right to dispose of your own body and have the integrity of your own body because when you go out in the street you are afraid of being attacked, of being touched , raped and so on. I would say this the least respected right".

SOUNDBITES:

SOT, Mikhail Mizintsev, Chief of the Russian National Military Control Centre (Russian): "Official Kiev has confirmed only one route - from Sumy through Poltava towards the border with Poland. Currently, due to unprecedented security measures taken by the armed forces of the Russian Federation, 723 people, including 576 Indian citizens, 115 Chinese, 20 Jordanians, and 12 Tunisians have been evacuated along the specified route. Moreover, 5,334 people, including 781 children, were evacuated from the dangerous zones in various parts of Ukraine per day, as well as in the Lugansk and Donetsk People's Republics."

SOT, Mikhail Mizintsev, Chief of the Russian National Military Control Centre (Russian): "A total of over 174,000 people, including 44,250 children, have already been evacuated since the start of the special military operation. A humanitarian operation without Ukraine's participation to evacuate 223 foreign citizens, including 188 from Turkey, 15 from Egypt, eight from Italy, six from Pakistan and five from India, as well as one Brazilian, from dangerous areas in Kherson Region via Crimea to Novorossiysk is coming to an end. These numbers will increase as the operation continues."

SOT, Mikhail Mizintsev, Chief of the Russian National Military Control Centre (Russian): "At the same time, the official Kiev authorities continue to categorically reject all the main evacuation routes from Kiev, Chernigov, Sumy, Kharkov and Mariupol to the territory of the Russian Federation. I would like to remind the Ukrainian side that in our database, taking into account the past day, 2,541,367 appeals have already been documented through various communication channels from specific Ukrainian citizens, as well as foreigners, with requests to rescue and evacuate them from 1,917 Ukrainian settlements."

SOT, Mikhail Mizintsev, Chief of the Russian National Military Control Centre (Russian): "The militants of the territorial defense battalions continue to hold hostage as a "human shield" more than four and a half million civilians, as well as about two thousand foreigners who have already expressed a desire to evacuate to safe places from the horrors and arbitrariness arranged by the nationalists."
