The Strait of Hormuz is now at the center of rising tensions as reports claim hundreds of ships are waiting for Iran’s IRGC Navy to allow passage.
Iranian media outlets Fars and Tasnim are claiming that for the first time in contemporary history complete authority over the Strait is in the hands of the IRGC Navy.
That is a significant claim because the Strait of Hormuz is one of the most vital oil transit chokepoints in the world. Nearly a fifth of global oil supply passes through this narrow stretch connecting the Persian Gulf to the open ocean. If movement here slows down or stops the impact is felt globally almost immediately.

And right now signals coming from the region are deeply conflicting. On one side Iranian reports suggest de facto control with ships waiting for clearance raising fears of a possible blockade scenario. On the other side the United States is issuing a strong warning.

Air ambulance services are calling on the government to prioritise fuel access in the event of shortages or rationing. They say uninterrupted supply is critical to ensure patients continue receiving urgent care when they need it most.

Often described as bringing a hospital directly to the patient, these services run around the clock every day of the year. Industry representatives have now written to MPs urging action to safeguard their operations.

U.S. President Donald Trump has outlined Washington’s strategy amid rising tensions with Iran, emphasising strong conventional military pressure while ruling out the need for nuclear weapons. Speaking from the Oval Office, Trump made it clear that preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear capability remains the top priority, even as U.S. forces increase their presence near the Strait of Hormuz.
At the same time, Iran has escalated its messaging by revealing a structured “target bank”—a list of potential strike points that includes military bases, energy infrastructure, and naval assets. With nearly 20% of global oil passing through the Strait of Hormuz, any disruption in the region could have significant consequences for global energy markets and shipping security.
Meanwhile, the United States is preparing for long-term strategic competition. The proposed $1.5 trillion defense budget marks the largest military expansion since World War II, focusing on advanced capabilities such as missile defense, artificial intelligence, and drone warfare. Key initiatives like the “Golden Dome” missile shield and “Golden Fleet” naval expansion highlight a shift toward future warfare readiness.
