The Strait of Hormuz is now at the center of rising tensions as reports claim hundreds of ships are waiting for Iran’s IRGC Navy to allow passage.
Iranian media outlets Fars and Tasnim are claiming that for the first time in contemporary history complete authority over the Strait is in the hands of the IRGC Navy.
That is a significant claim because the Strait of Hormuz is one of the most vital oil transit chokepoints in the world. Nearly a fifth of global oil supply passes through this narrow stretch connecting the Persian Gulf to the open ocean. If movement here slows down or stops the impact is felt globally almost immediately.

And right now signals coming from the region are deeply conflicting. On one side Iranian reports suggest de facto control with ships waiting for clearance raising fears of a possible blockade scenario. On the other side the United States is issuing a strong warning.

Die werden von Freiwilligen auf dem Parkplatz mit einem kleinen Bagger mit Sand befüllt. Die nutzen wir, damit uns am Sonntag der Wal nicht entfleucht. Quasi als Barriere.“ Timmy könnte sonst erneut in flachen Gewässern stranden und die Bergung wieder um Tage verzögern.
