U.S. President Donald Trump has outlined Washington’s strategy amid rising tensions with Iran, emphasising strong conventional military pressure while ruling out the need for nuclear weapons. Speaking from the Oval Office, Trump made it clear that preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear capability remains the top priority, even as U.S. forces increase their presence near the Strait of Hormuz.
At the same time, Iran has escalated its messaging by revealing a structured “target bank”—a list of potential strike points that includes military bases, energy infrastructure, and naval assets. With nearly 20% of global oil passing through the Strait of Hormuz, any disruption in the region could have significant consequences for global energy markets and shipping security.
Meanwhile, the United States is preparing for long-term strategic competition. The proposed $1.5 trillion defense budget marks the largest military expansion since World War II, focusing on advanced capabilities such as missile defense, artificial intelligence, and drone warfare.
