Disarming Hezbollah after three decades of institutional neglect of the Lebanese armed forces will not happen overnight, independent Lebanese MP Najat Aoun Saliba has warned.

She added that the government was taking the right steps.

“It is going to be very difficult to say overnight that the Lebanese armed forces are now at the forefront, when they do not have enough resources or manpower after 30 years of a militia being strengthened above them,” she told Al Jazeera.

Berlin – Eklat um Reza Pahlavi (65)! Der Schah-Sohn ist am Donnerstag vor der Bundespressekonferenz in Berlin plötzlich mit einer tomatenroten Flüssigkeit attackiert worden. Der 65-Jährige hatte gerade eine Pressekonferenz verlassen, als es vor dem Gebäude zum Angriff kam. Die soßenartige Substanz traf Pahlavi sichtbar an Schulter und Hals.

Zunächst war von einem Tomatenwurf die Rede, später korrigierten die Beamten ihre Angaben und sprachen nur noch von „roter Flüssigkeit“. Aus Pahlavis Umfeld heißt es dagegen, es sei Tomatensoße gespritzt worden! Der 65-Jährige wurde am Hals und an der Schulter getroffen, blieb aber gelassen – und winkte anschließend sogar noch seinen Unterstützern zu, bevor er ins Auto stieg und davonfuhr.

Der Täter wurde zu Boden gebracht und von der Polizei festgenommen. Ein Polizeisprecher sagte, dass der Mann nun zu seiner Identität und seinem Motiv befragt werde.

Millions of people in West Bengal have been removed from the electoral register ahead of state assembly elections, with Muslims and other religious minorities reportedly disproportionately affected. The BJP-led federal government says the revision was necessary to remove duplicates and deceased voters, but rights groups say the process was rushed and strips more than nine million people of their right to vote.
