At least four people have been killed and 20 others wounded in a shooting at a secondary school in the southern province of Kahramanmaras, Turkiye. Gulf states are seeking to ensure their security concerns are included in Pakistan-mediated US–Iran talks, as regional tensions linked to the war involving the US-Israeli war on Iran continue to drive diplomatic efforts across the Gulf. Qatar’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Majed Al Ansari says the Gulf is “not just part of the solution, but an essential element to any solution,” stressing close coordination with mediators and international partners.
Officials say Gulf countries are not directly participating in the talks but remain engaged through diplomatic channels, warning that recent hostilities have hit critical infrastructure. The International Energy Agency reports more than 80 oil facilities, including production and storage sites, have been struck, while Kuwait has seen more than half a dozen water desalination plants damaged, raising concerns over water security.
There is concern in the Gulf over the risk of renewed fighting, with officials stressing there is “no appetite for a resumption of hostilities” and no military solution to the crisis, as states push for a comprehensive diplomatic deal that includes the security concerns of all sides, including Iran.
However, Gulf states also fear external actors could undermine diplomatic efforts, following regional criticism of Israeli air strikes in Lebanon, as they continue to call for protection of energy routes and stability in the Strait of Hormuz.

Die von der schwarz-roten Koalition geplante Steuerfreiheit für Prämien bis zu 1.000 Euro für Beschäftigte stößt bei Arbeitgebern auf deutliche Kritik. Der Hauptgeschäftsführer der Bundesvereinigung der Deutschen Arbeitgeberverbände (BDA), Steffen Kampeter, sagt: «Die Unternehmen können sich das einfach nicht mehr leisten.»

Kampeter kritisierte: «Die Koalition verspricht Entlastung und liefert Belastung bei den Unternehmen.» Er verwies auf die anhaltend schwierige wirtschaftliche Lage: Die Wirtschaft komme seit 2019 nicht voran. Kampeter forderte gezielte Entlastungsmaßnahmen statt «zusätzliche Belastung bei den Arbeitskosten.»

Der Chef der CSU im Bundestag, Alexander Hoffmann, betonte, es gehe nicht darum, Unternehmer flächendeckend zu verpflichten oder ihnen Verantwortung für Entlastungen zuzuschieben. Der Vorschlag solle Betrieben etwa in gut laufenden Branchen eine Möglichkeit eröffnen, Mitarbeitern angesichts hoher Spritpreise etwas zurückzugeben.

In der Regel würden solche Prämien bei Tarifverhandlungen vereinbart, hieß es beim Deutschen Gewerkschaftsbund (DGB). Eine wichtige Frage sei deshalb, was mit Branchen sei, die gerade erst Tarifverhandlungen abgeschlossen hätten. Auch der Präsident des Zentralverbands des Deutschen Handwerks, Jörg Dittrich, stellte infrage, ob viele Betriebe sich die Prämie angesichts der mauen Wirtschaftslage überhaupt würden leisten können. 

Kritik der AfD

Auch die AfD sieht die angekündigte Prämie kritisch. «Das ist eine absolute Frechheit dieser Regierung», sagte Parteichef Tino Chrupalla in Berlin. Man wolle diese Prämie den Betrieben aufbürden, das sei unseriös. Co-Chefin Alice Weidel sagte, die Prämie würde der freien Wirtschaft zugeschoben, die ohnehin unter hohen Kosten leide. «Dazu fällt einem nichts mehr ein.»

The bombs stopped falling. The ceasefire kicked in. Both sides agreed to pause. And within 72 hours — satellites caught Iran doing something that changes everything about what this ceasefire actually means. They're digging. Fast.

A ceasefire is supposed to be a pause. A moment to breathe. A window for diplomacy. But what if one side is using that window — not to talk — but to rearm? Did Iran just take down one of America’s most advanced spy drones? Or… is the truth even more complicated? Because the U.S. Navy has now confirmed something major: A $238 million surveillance drone… is gone.

The aircraft? The MQ-4C Triton — a high-altitude, long-endurance intelligence platform often described as a “satellite with wings.” Built by Northrop Grumman, this drone is one of the most sophisticated surveillance assets in the U.S. arsenal.

And now… it’s at the bottom of the Persian Gulf.

According to the U.S. Navy, the drone crashed on April 9 during a mission over the Strait of Hormuz — one of the most sensitive and heavily contested regions in the world. This wasn’t a training flight. It was a real surveillance operation… happening in the middle of a fragile ceasefire between the U.S. and Iran.
